What you'll find:
Located on the 2,290-foot summit and flank of Pack Monadnock in Peterborough, Miller offers a winding, 1.3-mile, paved road leading to the summit for picnicking and hiking. An operational fire tower, used for detecting fires, affords a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Three main hiking trails ascend Pack Monadnock to the summit. The best known is the Wapack Trail, which is a 21-mile footpath that extends from Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, Mass., to North Pack Monadnock in Greenfield. On North Pack Monadnock, you can explore the Wapack National Wildlife Refuge, a popular hawk migration area. The refuge provides nesting habitat for numerous migratory songbirds, such as the tree sparrow, Swainson’s thrush, magnolia warbler, crossbills, pine grosbeaks and white-throated sparrow. The refuge also supports a variety of upland wildlife, including deer, bear, coyote, fisher, fox, mink and weasel.
