Pillsbury State Park

What you need to know:
The park, located on Route 31, is open during daylight hours. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger and New Hampshire residents 65 and older are admitted for free. Pets are allowed. For information, call 863-2850.
What you'll find:
Heavily wooded and sprinkled with several ponds and wetland areas, Pillsbury is one of the more primitive and lesser known gems of the state park system. The park offers canoeing, warm-water fishing, picnicking, hiking and mountain biking. History buffs will enjoy exploring the park’s long abandoned and overgrown cellar holes, remnants of early farm settlement and lumbering in the late 1700s and early 1800s, when the area was called Cherry Valley.
